What books are you using for world history for older children and teens? We have already gone through the Usborne World History Encyclopedia, and we don't like Story of the World. We strongly prefer a secular perspective.

My son is almost 12, reading at a college level, and we will be using DK's Visual History of the World (written for adults). I'd like to get at least one or two other main sources so we can compare and contrast what the different books tell us.

Any ideas?

My goal this week was to completely finish the first set of $10 dragons and set up the Calendar for ordering. I also had hoped to start work on the $15 dragons and draw a couple more monster pin-ups.

This is a lot of work, but I thought I could do it. However, I didn’t get a very good start at the beginning of the week, and then something else happened.

I still have a deadline, at least for the Calendar. The end of the month. I’ll get these things done by then.

But right now, I must work on another project. I have an opportunity for work that is really difficult to pass up, and I’ve never put together a good portfolio of my art before. And I need one, both for this job opportunity and for the future. So, for the next four days, that’s what I’m working on.

I believe I will be showing it off to you when I’m done. I may have to turn it in before anyone can critique it, but critiques will be welcome as I will need to improve it later (hopefully much later, but it’ll still be handy even five years down the road).

Thank you for your patience!

Wowzers, i haven't Posted here in.. well a LOOOONNNNGGGG time.
Sorry My Bad, just haven't been sewing a lot lately..
(trying to find a job, augh!)
Well, here it goes.

I'm going to an ICP concert on November 17th and well its my first ICP concert and im SUPER excited which is why i decided to make a dress for the concert!!

I had an old dress i got a few years ago that i never ever wear and a ICP shirt that i got at GOODWILL for $2 that was to small for me and i thought "OMG i should make a ICP dress!!".

Now my Original idea was to just cut out the image on the icp shirt and sew it onto the dress..(Can you say boring?) But then i had an idea that was even better.....

This should be a fantastic, high-caliber show. And even better, it's free!

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

Hi everybody,

I've been here for a couple years and it seems like most people have pretty young kids, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience homeschooling middle school age children. Grade school was easy! But I'm a little nervous about 7th grade next year...

I would be grateful for any help. Tips, resources, online communities, anything!

Thanks!
